Unknot Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-09-08
This policy applies to the current Unknot iOS and Android app, a general wellness app for people age 13 and older. It explains what the app stores on your device, what its service providers handle, and how to control that data.
What stays on your device
Unknot does not require an account. Setup answers (including selected focus areas and symptom context), reminder settings, custom routines, completed-session history, posture results, and app settings are stored locally on your device. The app does not provide account-based sync.
A posture scan contains one front and one side photo. The app keeps pending photos and saved-result photo references locally so you can retry an analysis or compare later scans. If you choose a photo from your library, Unknot copies an app-owned working copy when possible and does not delete the original library asset.
Camera, photo library, and notifications
Camera access is requested only when you choose to take a scan photo. The system photo picker opens when you choose a photo from your library. Notifications are requested when you enable reminders in Settings. Reminders are optional. You can use library photos instead of the camera. The current setup requires a front and side photo before you can continue; denying camera access does not remove that requirement. The current app does not request microphone, contacts, or precise or coarse location access.
Posture analysis
Photos remain on your device. With an active subscription, Unknot analyzes the selected front and side photos locally: Apple Vision on iPhone and iPad, and MediaPipe on Android. Posture photos, landmarks, and setup context are not sent to Unknot or a posture-analysis service.
Unknot stores the overall score, potential score, six alignment measures, strengths, improvements, explanation, and local photo references on your device. The review is a repeatable progress signal; it is not medical advice, a diagnosis, biometric identification, or an injury assessment.
Subscriptions and purchase information
Premium access is offered through paid auto-renewing subscriptions. The U.S. options are US$9.99 per week or US$59.99 per year, with no free trial. Prices and currency vary by storefront; the store shows the applicable local price before you confirm. Apple App Store or Google Play processes payment. RevenueCat handles purchase history and an anonymous app identifier to verify purchases, restore access, prevent fraud, and provide subscription analytics. The store handles its own account and payment information under its privacy policy. Unknot does not receive your payment-card details and does not require a named account.
Website launch emails
If you join the website launch list, we store your email address, any name you provide, signup source, page, and referrer using Supabase and send launch emails through Resend. This is separate from the app’s local data. Contact us to leave the list or request deletion of your signup.
App updates
Unknot uses Expo's update service to check for and download app updates over HTTPS. These requests include your operating system, app version information, a random identifier for this installation, and information about the updates installed or requested. The service also receives prior fatal-error reports and failed-update information, and uses update requests to measure aggregate app usage and update adoption. This helps deliver updates and diagnose problems. Your posture photos, results, and exercise history are not included in these update requests. See Expo's privacy explanation and privacy policy for how the service handles this information.
Analytics
New versions of Unknot use PostHog to understand app use, including onboarding steps, navigation, and subscription-screen actions. Events include a random installation identifier, operating system, app version and build, and limited action details. We do not send your posture photos, posture scores, or answers about stiffness to PostHog, and we do not record screen replays. PostHog processes these events in its United States cloud. Subscription purchase information is processed by RevenueCat for subscription management and analytics, and Expo uses update requests for aggregate usage and update analytics, as described above. Posture photos and results are not sent to RevenueCat.
If you choose to share a score from the app, your device opens its sharing controls with the score and potential score. Information you send goes to the app or recipient you select. If you email support, we receive your email address and the information you include so we can respond.
Retention and deletion
Use Delete scan photos and results in the Scan tab to clear saved posture results and pending-photo references and request removal of their app-owned photo copies. Use Delete local data in Settings to reset your profile, routines, session history and posture data and cancel scheduled reminders. Your appearance preference is retained. Local photo removal can fail if the device cannot delete a file; removing the app also removes its app storage, subject to your device’s backup settings. Deleting local data does not delete an original photo in your library. These controls do not cancel a subscription or erase purchase records held by Apple, Google, or RevenueCat. Those records are handled under the providers’ retention policies. Contact us with privacy or deletion questions; store-account and payment-record requests may need to be handled by the relevant store.
Children and safety
Unknot is intended for users 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. If local law requires parent or guardian consent, use the app with that consent.
Unknot provides general wellness routines and is not medical advice. Stop if pain increases, feels sharp, causes numbness, dizziness, or symptoms that worry you. Speak with a qualified professional before starting if you have an injury, medical condition, or concern.
