Unknot Privacy Policy

This policy applies to the current Unknot iOS and Android app, a general wellness app for people age 13 and older. It explains what the app stores on your device, what its service providers handle, and how to control that data.

What stays on your device

Unknot does not require an account. Your chosen name and setup answers (including age, goals, selected focus areas and symptom context), reminder settings, custom routines, completed-session history, posture results, and app settings are stored locally on your device. The app does not provide account-based sync.

A posture scan contains one front and one side photo. The app keeps pending photos and saved-result photo references locally so you can retry an analysis or compare later scans. If you choose a photo from your library, Unknot copies an app-owned working copy when possible and does not delete the original library asset.

Camera, photo library, and notifications

Camera access is requested only when you choose to take a scan photo. Photo library access is requested only when you choose a photo. Notifications are requested only when you turn on reminders. You can deny any of these permissions and continue using the rest of the app. The current app does not request microphone, contacts, or precise or coarse location access.

Posture analysis

Photos remain on your device. The iOS app offers an optional free onboarding scan and analyzes selected front and side photos locally using Apple's Vision framework. Later scans require the access shown in the app. Posture photos, landmarks, and setup context are not sent to Unknot or a posture-analysis service. Automated posture analysis is not currently offered in the Android app.

Unknot stores the overall score, potential score, six alignment measures, strengths, improvements, explanation, and local photo references on your device. The review is a repeatable progress signal; it is not medical advice, a diagnosis, biometric identification, or an injury assessment.

Subscriptions and purchase information

Premium access is offered through paid auto-renewing subscriptions. The current options are shown in the app before purchase. Apple App Store or Google Play processes the payment, and RevenueCat manages the unknot_pro entitlement. Those providers may process purchase, device, store-account, and entitlement information under their own policies. Unknot does not receive your payment-card details and does not require a named account.

Website launch emails

If you join the website launch list, we store your email address and signup details using Supabase and send launch emails through Resend. This is separate from the app’s local data. Contact us to leave the list or request deletion of your signup.

Product analytics

The iPhone app uses PostHog to understand reliability and use of the app. Allowlisted events include app version and build, screen and onboarding steps, routine-session actions, and purchase or restore outcomes. Events use a randomly generated installation identifier. We disable session replay, automatic screen capture and automatic location enrichment. We do not send your name, age, goals, pain or stiffness answers, posture scores, photos, exercise prescriptions or free-text content to PostHog.

Advertising measurement

Starting with iPhone version 1.5.0, Unknot uses AppsFlyer to measure app installs, sessions and onboarding completion, including attribution to Meta advertising. AppsFlyer manages Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork reporting. Without iOS tracking permission, the app disables advertising and vendor identifier collection and enables AppsFlyer anonymization; AppsFlyer's Aggregated Advanced Privacy setting limits partner reporting to aggregated, anonymous data. These events contain no posture photos, health answers or personalized plan content.

Where you have granted iOS tracking permission and enabled advertising measurement, AppsFlyer and Meta identifiers may be shared with RevenueCat to associate subscription events with advertising. RevenueCat is the source of subscription and revenue events, including purchases and renewals, sent to AppsFlyer and Meta. We do not send duplicate client-side purchase events to these ad providers. Meta revenue reporting requires tracking authorization. TikTok measurement is not enabled by this release.

You can turn advertising measurement off in the app's Settings. This stops AppsFlyer collection and clears advertising attribution attributes in RevenueCat; it does not revoke purchase access or turn off the separate product analytics described above. Existing opt-outs are preserved. iOS tracking permission can also be managed in the device's Settings. We do not request tracking permission merely to use aggregate measurement.

Apple Health

If you choose to connect Apple Health, Unknot requests permission to save completed stretching sessions as workouts. Health data is not used for advertising or sent to PostHog, AppsFlyer or Meta. You can manage or revoke Health permissions and remove saved workouts in Apple's Health app.

Retention and deletion

Use Delete scan photos and results in the Scan tab to clear posture results, pending photos, and app-owned local photo copies. Use Delete local data in Settings to clear all local profile, posture, session, and settings data and cancel scheduled reminders. Deleting local data does not delete an original photo in your library. Deleting local app data does not automatically erase analytics or attribution records already received by service providers. Contact us about deletion requests; the app's support identifier can help us locate subscription records. Purchase records remain with Apple, Google, and RevenueCat as needed for entitlement management, fraud prevention, support, and legal compliance.

Children and safety

Unknot is intended for users 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. If local law requires parent or guardian consent, use the app with that consent.

Unknot provides general wellness routines and is not medical advice. Stop if pain increases, feels sharp, causes numbness, dizziness, or symptoms that worry you. Speak with a qualified professional before starting if you have an injury, medical condition, or concern.

Website visits

Vercel Web Analytics counts public website visits without analytics cookies. It receives public page URLs with queries and fragments removed, browser-permitted referring information and basic browser, device and country information. It respects Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. We do not send form contents, photos, health answers, app identities or checkout data to this website counter.
